Hot on the heels of AU's 5500 series is DoCoMo's 702i series. There are five handsets.
-P702i
The P702i is a clamshell handset from Panasonic that is concerned with ease of use. It uses the same Linux OS as the P902i, and the same processor -- the OMAP 2 (OMAP2420). Most functionality on the software end of things is the same as the P902i, such as the menu images, the ability to playback 240 x 320 iMotion video at 30 frames per second, and the ability to save some contents such as iApple on the miniSD card. However, because it allows customization of menu icons, their design, and the 2nd level of menu items, the animations and such can be completely changed; it has a few points that differ from the P902i.
A feature called "Simple Mode" allows users to quickly summon basic functions. This makes the text size larger, and makes it such that there will be less items in the submenu for security settings, for example. Simple Mode is solely about increasing viewability and ease of use.
The handset also supports the same one-Push Open like the rest of the P series. When opening the phone, if new mail has arrived, it will display the list of received emails; if there was a missed call, it will display the incoming call history. one-Push has been linked with the functional side of the phone.
It is also the first handset of the 70Xi series that supports "Push-to-Talk," and is the first that has an audio play function with support for SD-Audio. "SD-Jukebox" music management/transfer software is included in the package.
The main display is a 2.2" QVGA (320 x 240) TFT LCD capable of displaying 262,144 colors, and the subdisplay is a 0.9" 96 x 25 dot monochrome STN LCD. There is a 1.2MP Maicovicon camera on the outside of the phone, and a 0.11MP CMOS camera on the inside. miniSD is used for external storage, and cards up to 1GB in size can be used.
The size of the phone is 102 x 49 x 22mm, and it weighs about98g. While sitting still, it has an idle time of about 500 hours, or 350 hours when moving. Up to 150 minutes of talk time are possible (100 minutes with TV phone). Three body colors will be available: Silver, Bitter, and Pink.

-D702i
Mitsubishi's D702i handset has a simple, straight-style bar design. Its idle images are preset to match its body colors, and the design of the menus themselves also differs based on the handset's body color.
Symbian OS is used, and ATOK + APOT is used for Japanese input. The "Timer Key Lock" function will automatically lock the keys after a certain amount of time has passed, and the "In-Service Area Automatic Send" function will automatically send mails that were created when out of the service area upon re-entering a service area. Mail searching functionality is also offered through a book of saved addresses and a calendar.
Other features include "Simple Menu" for using iChannel and large fonts for easy menu operation, TV Phone (Chara-Den), and iAppli support up to 50KB.
The display is a 2" QVGA (240 x 320 dot) TFT LCD capable of displaying 262,144 colors. on the outside of the handset is a 1.3MP CMOS camera, and on the inside is a 0.1MP CMOS camera. It has no removable memory.
On the right side of the body is a macro switch and camera startup key. on the left side is an earphone jack.
The body size is 130 x 47 x 16.7mm, and it weighs about 100g. While moving, the idle time is at about 520 hours, otherwise it is 360 hours. The continuous talk time is about 155 minutes (94 minutes for TV phone). SHINY WHITE, METAL BLACK, and SPARKLE BLUE body colors will be available.

-F702iD
The F702iD is a model that was commercialized through collaboration between Keiko Hirano and Aoishi Koudou of Communication Design Laboratories (CDL), Fujitsu, and DoCoMo. It employs a clamshell design with a characteristic round form, and taking the roundness of the base into the palm of your hand feels nice.
Though it is a clamshell style phone, it has no subdisplay on the outside, giving it a soft and calmed design. "Double Illumination" will illuminate portions of the body that are close to the hinge of the main display. Forcing down the buttons on the side, you're able to determine the IC card lock status, battery level, and reception level based on the illumination pattern.
The handset features functionality on par with the 90Xi series although it is a 70Xi series, such as support for iApple as large as 500KB and PDF support. It is also the first 70Xi series handset to support "Osaifu Keitai (Wallet Phone)" services, and it can use Toruca. Support for JR East Japan's Mobile Suica is also planned.
It is also the first handset of the 70Xi series to have a fingerprint sensor, as is standard with F series phones. A new function called "IC Card Lock Release Schedule" allows the Wallet Phone functions to be unlocked during a specified time period. This enables users to restrict the time that the Wallet Phone function can be used, such as on the way to work, on the way home, during lunch time, and so forth -- simply setting a time means that the Wallet Phone functions can only be used during this time. The iAppli for "iD," DoCoMo's own Mobile Phone Credit Brand, is preset.
The display is a 2.2" QVGA (320 x 240) TFT LCD capable of displaying 262,144 colors. It has a 1.2MP CMOS camera on the outside and a 0.11MP camera on the inside.
Although the handset does not support removable memory, a USB cable is included in the package, allowing for backup of phone book data and images recorded with the camera. Simply connecting the cable to the phone and PC will cause the synchronization software to be launched automatically. Depending on the settings, address data and such that has been changed can also automatically be backed up.
Four body colors will be available: "Konjiki" (Golden), "Hanakurenai" (Deep Flower Red), "Mashiro" (Pure White), and "Tsuyakuro" (Black Glaze). A view of the world and color scheme pattern is also preset on the phone to match each body color.
CDL's Mr. Hirano explained the concept by saying, "it is a form that becomes one with your hand. It has the image of a spectacle with manners for adults with standards." The organic form was developed with "Organic," "Glamorous," and "Elegance" as the keywords. Also, glamorous golden and azalea colors were used, but they match the colors of skin, helping this handset be aware of traditional Japanese colors. He also appealed the white phone by saying that it is "white symbolic of purity," and that "there are currently no mobile phones more white than this."
The CDL also helped with the design of ringers that can be frequently used. Standard ringers have been dropped an octave and reverb has been added, giving them a softer feeling. Preset on the phone are melodies such as the sound of water, sound of wind, and other sounds commonly found in nature.
The size is 98 x 51 x 31mm, and it weighs 114g. Continuous idle time is 430 hours while still, or 300 hours while moving. For talk time, you should get about 140 minutes (80 minutes on TV phone).

-N702iD
The N702iD is a FOMA handset developed through collaboration between art director Kashiwa Satou, NEC, and DoCoMo. Mr. Satou also helped with the product design for the "SA800i" kids phone.
It is a flat, square clamshell style phone that features a straight-line style organic EL display called the "Long Subdisplay for displaying basic information such as the time and iChannels. This monochrome subdisplay is 300 x 30 dots at 2.1 inches.
The main display is a 2.3" QVGA+ (240 x 345) TFT LCD that displays 65,536 colors. The phone features a 1.25MP camera on its outside, and a 0.11MP camera on its inside. miniSD is used as a removable media. The basic hardware and software specifications are on par with those of the N701.
It contains an audio player function, and can playback nonsecure AAC formatted audio files from the miniSD card. The song currently playing will be displayed on the Long Subdisplay. When transferring audio files saved on a PC to the miniSD card (such as those from Audio CDs or iTunes), the specialized "FOMA N702iD Music Player Data Transfer Software" is used. Transferring files requires a "FOMA USB Connection Cable," which is not included.
Mr. Satou said about the handset's concept, "I wanted to make something something upright. Because of this, I went for something ultimately flat and square. It's a frank design, but I aimed for something with impact." Also, the phone's "SAMURAI702" font name comes from Mr. Satou's creative studio, "Samurai," which also helped out with the design of the N702iD. Mr. Satou also helped with matching the idle images and interfaces with the body colors of the phone.
Apart from this, the phone features an inorganic EL backlight on the flat and button parts. A function called "Omakase Deco Mail" allows for simple conversaion of text mail to Deco Mail on the mail creation screen. Also, besides using the "PIM Lock" function that will lock profile information and such that is loaded on the phone (as is featured on the N902i), the N702iD adds convenience by holding the "3" button to disable this PIM Lock function.
The size of the phone is 98 x 48 x 18.7mm, and it weighs 112g. It has about 560 hours of still idle time, and 400 hours while moving. Talk time is at 140 minutes (90 minutes for TV phone). RED, BLACK, SILVER, and WHITE body colors will be available, where RED and WHITE have glossy coating, BLACK has a matte feel, and SILVER has a metallic coating.

The SH702iD is a clamshell from Sharp that is FOMA's smallest and lightest. Makoto Matsunaga, Sharp, and DoCoMo got together to commercialize the handset.
The entire form of the phone has both straight lines and circles, and the phone's font is used on the key tops and internal contents. The "Live Illumi" function will also inform the current operational state of the phone, such as incoming call, talking, or playing music, with lights.
The display is a 2" QVGA (240 x 320) CGS LCD capable of displaying 262,144 colors. It has a 1.3MP camera on the outside and 0.11MP camera on the inside. miniSD is used as a removable media.
It contains a music playback function that supports the playback of SD-Audio, and the player's functions can be controlled via buttons on the side of the phone even while it is closed.
