Sanyo will add two new color variations to the "DMX-C1" model, which was released back in November of 2003. The two new colors are black and red.

Sanyo Electronics Corporation will release two new color variations (midnight black {K}, and urban red {R}) of the 640x480 pixel, 30 FPS MPEG-4 movie camera, "Xacti DMX-C1" o­n March 5th. The price is the same as the existing model; 75,000 yen.

The DMX-C1 is a MPEG-4 movie camera whose silver model was released back in November of 2003. As for the reasoning behind the newly released color variations, Sanyo has said, "In addition to digital camera users function preferences, the tendency for stressing of fashion value has also grown; so there is a large demand for color models. The new colors are a response to the preferences of consumers."

Other than color, these have the same specifications as the DMX-C1. It has a 1/2.7 aperture 3.34MP CCD lens, vertical digital camera form, and also has movie capabilities with the MPEG-4 movie format. o­ne of the special characteristics is the ability to take pictures, even during movie recording, without having to change modes. The battery is a lithium ion rechargeable, and the MPEG-4 recording time is about 60 minutes, and play time is about 130 minutes.

The MPEG-5 conforms to the ISO/IEC 14496 standard. The five MPEG-4 recording modes are: "TV-SHQ" (640 x 480/30fps/3Mbps), "TV-HQ" (640 x 480/30fps/2Mbps), "TV-S" (320 x 240/30fps), "Web-HQ" (320 x 240/15fps), and finally "Web-S" (176 x 144/15fps).

Audio employs the MPEG-4 AAC audio compression format, and supports 16bit/48kHz stereo sound. o­n-board editing functions are also available for MPEG-4 movies recorded o­n the unit, such as copying, section cutting, joining, etc..

The lens has a 5.8x optical zoom, with a focal length of 38-220mm (35mm optimal). There is o­nly a screen finder; no viewfinder is available. The 1.5" LCD monitor uses "Sufaya Vision" which makes viewing easy even in outdoor hard to see situations.

The external dimensions are 69 x 34 x 108mm (W x D x H), and just the main unit weighs 155g; making this the smallest and lightest consumer camera capable of recording at resolutions over VGA. There is a flash under the lens, and o­n the bottom of the unit there are tripod holes.
