Sanyo threw down three new phones for au's CDMA 1X service. The Sweets pure, A5520SA, and A5518SA. Each offers plenty of au style and functionality.

-Sweets pure

The "Sweets pure" is a clamshell style Sanyo handset for CDMA 1X, and is the successor to the "Sweets" released in March of 2005. Its product number of "A5519SA." Release is expected for mid-February.

The main target for the handset is youth, and it takes after previous models with its usage of vivid colors. The Sweets pure will be available in Macaron Framboise (Pink), Cafe Creme (White), and Poire Chocolat (Lime Yellow), named after sweets and using light colors -- the company said "it is a design that adds freshness, gracefulness, and cleverness."

Included in the package are four types of exclusive stickers that are to be placed o­n the periphery of the main display, allowing users to customize the appearance of the phone. Disney characters, Flash animations, and other such charming things are preset as idle images.

On the hardware side of things, functionality is largely the same as the A5518SA, though this unit does not support Friendly Design or include an FM radio function.

The main display is a 2.2" 240 x 320 dot TFT LCD capable of displaying 260,000 colors, and the subdisplay is a 1" 96 x 64 dot STN LCD that can display 65,000 colors. Included is a 1.3MP camera, infrared transmission function, Japanese/English and English/Japanese dictionaries, "Camera de Dictionary," crime buzzer, a simple light, and "Teens Mode" that can protect certain functions of the phone from being used too frequently. The phone also supports Hello Messenger, and under EZ Navi Walker, through "Input with Voice," "Transfer Search with Voice" and "Destination Search with Voice" can be used.

The size of the unit is 49 x 94 x 24mm, and it weighs about 111g. ATOK (AI conversion) + APOT is provided for Japanese input. The internal memory is about 18MB. Idle time is about 290 hours, and talk time about 190 minutes.

The "Junior Keitai A5520SA" is a Sanyo clamshell style handset intended for use with CDMA 1X, and is aimed primarily at children. It will be released in late February.

The phone was developed with children as its primary target, and it features a crime prevention buzzer that has a volume of 80dB from a distance of 1m (98dB at 10cm). Holding the pound button (#) for a while will sound the buzzer, and at the same time, current position information will automatically be sent in mail to the "Pair Partner" that is set under the "Pair Function."

Also, when displaying the main menu, the function of each submenu option is explained using simple terms.

Through the use of GPS functionality, the phone can not o­nly use au's own "Safety Navi" service, but also the "HELPNET Keitai" service offered by Japan Emergency Call Service, and "Koko Secom EZ" offered by Secom.

"Junior Mode" is also available to prevent abuse of certain functions, such as EZweb, Hello Messenger, or certain parties for regular phone calls. Also featured is "Remote Auto Lock" for remotely locking the phone in the event it is lost. 8 kinds of stickers are also included in the package for placement around the body near the subdisplay.

Sanyo's A5518SA offers a 1.3MP camera, FM radio, and infrared communications, and is intended as a CDMA 1X handset. It will be released in early February.

The main display is a 2.2" 240 x 320 dot TFT LCD that can display 260,000 colors, and the subdisplay is a 1" STN LCD that can display 65,000 colors, and has 96 x 64 dots. A 1.3MP CMOS camera sits o­n the subdisplay side of the phone, and it is used for "Camera de Dictionary" function for OCR and dictionary searches.

Primary functions include an FM radio, Chaku Uta, Chaku Flash, Hello Messenger and BREW Appli (Barcode Reader & Maker), Safety Navi, Pair Function, and Smart Mode is also supported. Friendly Design support means the handset can cause the End Call button side of the phone to stick out, and the design features big buttons with large characters printed o­n them.

"EZ Navi Walker" pedestrian navigation can be used through a GPS function, and through the use of "Input with Voice," "Transfer Search with Voice" and "Destination Search with Voice" can be used. Also, the handset furnishes infrared communications and a miniSD slot.

ATOK (AI conversion) + APOT provides Japanese input. The internal memory is about 18MB. The size is 48 x 94 x 21mm, and the weight 105g. It should see about 290 hours of idle time and 190 minutes of continuous talk time. Three body colors will be available: Passion Red, Luster White, and Smoke Silver.
