Keitai Watch recently surveyed their readers to determine the No.1 mobile phone released for the Japanese market during 2005. During the 6 day voting period from 16-21 December, 5,720 votes were collected.

The most popular phone, by a wide margin, was the Windows Mobile OS powered Sharp W-ZERO3, a W-SIM slide-style PDA phone with a built-in keyboard. Wilcom handsets receive strong support from users each year in this survey and this time it was the W-ZERO3 that garnered the most votes based on its popularity since being announced.

Second place went to Kyocera's WX310K, a follow-up model to last year's winner, the AH-K3001V, and another Wilcom handset. Certainly, the feverish support of Wilcom users is reflected in the voting results again this year.

Third place went to the water and shock-proof "G'zOne TYPE-R" CDMA 1X handset from Casio Computer. Although it's not part of au's flagship CDMA 1X WIN range, this handset attracted a lot of attention for use scenario-focused design.

Three members of NTT Docomo's 902i series, the Panasonic P902i, Sharp SH902i and Mitsubishi D902i, filled the next three places, followed by the Vodafone Nokia 702NKII smartphone. The Sanyo WX310SA, Hitachi W32H and Sony Ericsson W31S rounded out the top ten.
