Is it possible? A PC even smaller than the Mac mini? Of course. A newcomer, minipc.jp, has presented their first machine: the CF700. It's smaller than a Mac mini, but comes with a few surprises.

minipc.jp Limited will release the pint-sized "CF700" barebone PC that supports Pentium M/Celeron M in late November. It is Open Price, but listed at around 57,540 yen.

The body size is 160 x 125 x 55mm (W x D x H), making it a barebone PC "20% smaller than the Mac mini." The rotation speed of the internal fans can also be adjusted, in proportion to the CPU that is inside the unit. The chipset used is the Intel 852GME (with video) + ICH4-M. A frontside bus of 400MHz/533MHz is also supported, as is a Pentium M with a Dothan core. An 184-pin DIMM slot with support for PC2100/2700 memory is furnished, and it can house a maximum of 1GB of memory. The hard drive interface is Ultra ATA/100 (44-pin).

Expansion slots include Mini-PCI x 1, and 2.5" drive bay x 1. Available interfaces are USB 2.0 x 2, Ethernet, Serial, mini D-Sub 15-pin, and so o­n.

BTO models, where users can customize the CPU, memory, hard drive, and OS will also be available. An example includes a unit with a Celeron M 360J (1.4GHz) for a CPU, 256MB of memory, 40GB hard drive, and Windows XP Home Edition (SP2); it costs around 92,925 yen.
