Plextor breathes new life into the dying breed that is DVD recorders (or at least we think they're dying, with Blu-ray and HD DVD right around the corner) by introducing the world's first 18x DVD±R burners. 18x is a rather odd number to have for optical recorders (from 16x you'd normally just go right on to 32x), but oh well.

Plextor has announced two DVD±RW drives that support writing at 18x, in the "PX-760" series. They will be released mid-November.

The PX-760 series are DVD±RW drivers that support writing single layer DVD±R discs at 18x, and with the "AUTOSTRATEGY" feature that can learn media characteristics, it has a high recording reliability.

Dual-layer DVD+R discs can be written at 10x, dual-layer DVD-R discs at 6x, DVD+RW discs at 8x, and DVD-RW discs at 6x.

The product lineup includes the ATAPI internal "PX-760A/JP" and the Serial ATA "PX-760SA/JP." Both include changeable front panels in white, black, and silver. Each is also Open Price, and the PX-760A/JP is estimated at around 15,000 yen, and the PX-760SA/JP at around 18,000 yen.
