The Sony product onslaught continues, and this time they're announcing a 40GB photo storage unit that features support for Memory Stick/Duo, CF, and Microdrive.
Sony will release the "HDPS-M10," a portable photo storage unit that has an internal 40GB hard drive, on November 18th. Listed at Open Price, we guess it'll cost around 30,000 yen.
It's certainly a photo storage unit that contains a 2.5" hard drive, Type 2 CF slot, and Memory Stick slot. Supported media types are Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, CF, and Microdrive.
It uses USB 2.0 to connect to a PC.
The data transfer rate is about 3MB/sec. When using a 133x CF card, this jumps to 4MB/sec. It has a monochrome LCD to let you know about its operational state. It can't display images on this screen. The four corners of the unit feature impact shielding, so it's almost as though it wants to be dropped.
A lithium ion battery inside the unit can copy the entire contents of a 1GB Memory Stick card about 15 times before running out of juice, when charged fully. Included is an AC adapter that can also be used overseas.
The size of the unit is 135 x 92 x 30mm (W x D x H), and it weighs something to the tune of 300g. "Photo Diary" software, for management of images by taking a calendar approach, is also included.
