We've seen a few similar systems in the past, but Onkyo has announced their own approach to the "wireless AV delivery" system. It's called the WL-TR100(B) and uses 802.11a.

Onkyo Corporation will release the "WL-TR100(B)," a wireless AV signal system that can transmit compsite, S-video, and analog audio signals, in late September.

The system is comprised of a transmitter (WL-TX100) and a receiver (WL-RX100). AV input signals are transmitted to the receiver by the transmitter, enabling users to view their DVD player content and other contents on TVs in different places.

The receiver also has a receiver for signals from a remote controller, and it can transmit/receive remote signals. This allows users to control the player that is attached to the transmitter even from a different room.

The transmitter features a MPEG-2 encoder, and the receiver an MPEG-2 decoder. Signals are automatically converted and deconverted into the MPEG-2 format. The transmission type is OFDM, under the IEEE 802.11a (5.2GHz) standard. The transmitter has a range of 10m in all directions, and when there are no obstacles, as much as 50m. After the receiver receives its signals, MPEG-2 is decoded and the signal is output.

The bitrate used by the unit will automatically adjust between 4, 8, and 14MBps. When encrypted, this can change to as much as 6, 12, and 24Mbps. This automatic speed adjustment will help to prevent jerky/locked video signals caused by interference.

The transmitter has inputs for composite, s-video, and analog audio (RCA). It also features throughputs, making it possible to have "main room" and "alternate room" configurations. The receiver features composite, s-video, and analog audio (RCA) outputs.

One receiver can be used per transmitter. Both support vertical and horizontal operation. The external dimensions and weight are the same. These dimensions are 32.1 x 129 x 206mm (W x D x H), and the weight 390g. An IR cable, an AV cable, and an AC adapter are included.
