This will put Pioneer as the #1 producer in the world of PDP displays in the world, with a 22% market share.

Pioneer and Nippon Electrical Corporation (NEC) presented that they have agreed to turn over responsibility of NEC Plasma Display Corporation to Pioneer. After integration in March, Pioneer's PDP display production will be 1,100,000 per month - #1 in the world with 22% of the share.

This deal consists of all shares of NPD, and all intellectual property associated with PDP. They aim to be fully integrated by the end of March. While the purchase price was not made clear, it appears to be around 40,000,000,000 yen.

NPD has revenue of more than 50,000,000,000 yen and another 10,000,000,000 yen in stocks. NPD is currently manufacturing private business use displays, as well as OEM panels intended for TVs.

Clearly, this purchase will be significant for Korea's LCD makers, such as Samsung SDI and LG Electronics.
